How I Prep for a Wedding Day Emotionally + Practically

There’s something sacred about photographing a wedding. Yes, it’s beautiful and exciting, but it’s also emotional, layered, and deeply personal. As a wedding photographer, I know I’m not just showing up to take pretty photos. I’m stepping into one of the most meaningful days of someone’s life.

That’s why, at Amanda Jenkins Photography, my wedding day prep goes far beyond packing gear or reviewing a shot list. I prepare both practically and emotionally, because my job isn’t just about technical skill. It’s about creating a calm, trust-based photo experience where my clients feel safe, supported, and seen.

Here’s exactly what that looks like behind the scenes!

Practical Wedding Day Prep

Let’s start with the obvious (but essential): gear, timing, and logistics.

✔️ Camera Gear & Backup Systems

Every wedding day starts with fully charged batteries, formatted memory cards, and backup gear ready to go. I double-check my camera settings, lenses, and lighting gear, even if I’ve done it a hundred times. A smooth experience starts with preparation, and I take that seriously. You can count on me to bring an emergency kit in case we need something last second and also backups of gear! I will be prepared!

✔️ Timeline & Communication

In the week leading up to your wedding, I revisit our conversations, re-read your pre-wedding questionnaire, and review the timeline. I want to show up already knowing what’s important to you. Not just the schedule, but the heart behind it. We will have a Video Call the week before or of your wedding so we can go over the timeline, specific things to know or that have changed, and any last tips from me to tell you about day of details!!! YAY!!!

Who matters most to you. What moments you don’t want to miss. Where flexibility might be needed. I’m not just a photographer, I’m a calm presence who’s there to help your day unfold as smoothly as possible. If you’re overwhelmed, stressed, or need help with something, I’ve got you! I am on your team and will be there every step of the way!

✔️ Weather, Lighting, & Location Scouting

I check the forecast, location lighting (indoor/outdoor), and think through every scenario. Rain? Wind? Unexpected delays? I always bring creative flexibility and a peaceful presence. You don’t need extra stress, you need someone who can adapt while keeping you grounded.

Emotional Wedding Day Prep

This is the part most people never see, but it makes all the difference in how I show up for you.

✔️ Centering Myself Before I Serve and Bringing Faith Into the Mix

Every wedding morning, I carve out quiet space to prepare emotionally. I spend time praying, journaling, or simply grounding myself. Why? Because if I’m rushed, anxious, or distracted, it affects how I serve.

You’ve invited me into a sacred space. I want to enter it with intention, empathy, and full presence. I spend my morning relaxed and preparing for the biggest day of your life!

✔️ Remembering Why This Work Matters

Before every wedding, I remind myself: This isn’t just a job, it’s someone’s once-in-a-lifetime memories. I think about the couple. Their story. Their families. Their why.

That intentional reflection helps me stay aligned with the kind of photographer I want to be: not rushed, not robotic, but emotionally connected, people-first, and present.

✔️ Bringing Emotional Safety to My Clients

Being photographed on your wedding day can feel vulnerable. That’s why I work hard to create a safe, calm photography environment. I come ready to affirm, support, and gently guide, not control or over-direct.

Many of my couples say I helped them feel more relaxed than they ever expected. That’s intentional. Because when you feel safe, you show up as you. And that’s what makes the images real. And worth a life time!

Creating a Calm, Trust-Based Photo Experience

At the heart of Amanda Jenkins Photography is one simple truth: you deserve to feel cared for, not just photographed.

I’ve built this business on more than just style or skill. I’ve built it on empathy. On emotional presence. On the belief that the best wedding photography comes from deep trust, not just good lighting.

So when you choose me as your wedding photographer, you’re not just getting someone who shows up with a camera. You’re getting someone who shows up with her whole heart.

Planning a Wedding? Let’s Make It Feel Calm and Connected

If you’re looking for a Northern Georgia or Eastern Idaho wedding photographer (or beyond! I love to travel!) who will prepare with both professionalism and emotional intention, I’d love to connect.

Let’s create a wedding photography experience that feels grounded, calm, and full of meaning—just like your love story.
